The nights are drawing in very quickly: a reminder that we will soon be changing the time on our clocks and that winter is only a matter of weeks away. It also signals a time when our minds begin to focus on Remembrance Day, Advent and Christmas (The shops are already starting to display some Christmas goods!) Now we need to switch on our lights earlier in the evening, and if we go out in the evening then torches and car headlights are the order of the day.
One of my favourite verses in the Bible, which you can find in Psalm 119 and verse 105, says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” As our roads and footpaths have lacked general maintenance there are many cracks and potholes that need careful navigation in order to avoid an accident. As we live our lives, there are times when we need to navigate situations and problems that we encounter and can cause a lot of head scratching in order to find a solution or a clear path through or around them. The words and teaching of the Bible, particularly the New Testament, can point us in the right direction if only we would heed its teaching.
The scriptures are worth reading to find out how we should live our lives, even more so in these days of such turmoil and unrest in the world. There are many truths in the words that are contained in the letters of Paul to the early churches, and they equally apply to the world today.
May I wish you God’s love and peace
