Graham’s Weekly Message

I was privileged to attend St Albans Cathedral on Saturday for the Installation of our new Diocesan Bishop, The Right Reverend Dr Andrew Rumsey. It was a wonderful occasion, with a number of dignitaries in attendance. We now look forward to his ministry among us, as he guides and leads us in this new period for the Diocese.

In his sermon he spoke of his early years when he resided in the Diocese with his family, and the times he took part in the pilgrimage walking to the cathedral on Easter Monday with a large number of young people; and now he is here as our Bishop. We reflect about harvest at this time of the year, and Bishop Andrew spoke of the seeds that were sown in his early life of the Christian faith, and how they have grown until this moment in time.

We never know how the seeds sown in our early lives will grow and flourish, and how they will influence us for the rest of our lives. The Bishop reflected on Jesus’ parable of the Sower, and how sometimes the seeds sown fall on hard, thorny or stony ground and never have the chance to flourish and become fruitful. As we give thanks for the harvest, I hope that you will reflect on your own life, and perhaps the seeds sown of the Christian faith in your early years will come to the fruition of a belief in Jesus.

May I wish you God’s love and peace

Revd Graham
