I’m always saddened by the loss of life, however it happens, and this summer with the hot weather we have seen a number of tragic accidents; and a lot have been caused when people have tried to cool off in our rivers and seas. I think we have learned over the years how strong and powerful the currents are that lurk beneath the surface. My father nearly drowned in his early years; but as he was going down for the third time he was saved by his friend who lived in Roxton – for which I give thanks, otherwise I wouldn’t be here!
We never know how life will turn out, and why we come through such experiences, but they all help to make us who we are and build our confidence and trust. I believe that God has a purpose for us all as we live our lives, and we have to decide if we want to follow where he leads us or turn away and ignore his call. I trust that my father was saved for a purpose, and my family truly appreciates the saving act of his friend in that moment in time.
There are many stories in the Bible where God has used people who appear to have been lost or who are out of touch with reality, and yet God has saved and used them for a particular purpose in life – sometimes as a great example to many people. I truly hope that we can all discover God’s purpose for us, and follow his ways to discover the plans he has made for us so that our lives may be fulfilled – as Jesus promised, life in all its fullness.
