The hot weather continues, even though temperatures are a little lower than they have been in recent weeks – I guess it is the school holidays that have prompted the slight change! Nevertheless it remains dry, and even though we have a hosepipe ban, the gardens and fields are in desperate need of water. We are told that there is a small possibility of some rain into next week, but it doesn’t look very hopeful, at least for this area. We rely totally on water: whether it is directly to drink, wash or for our gardens – but also for industry and the production of most of what we use in our everyday lives. Along with bread, water is one of life’s essential commodities. These are the physical elements that our bodies need, but what about our spiritual needs? What can we take in that feeds our inner soul?
When we have a gadget and it doesn’t work as we want it to, most people refer to the maker’s instructions – either downloaded on our computers or the hard copy that was supplied when we purchased that item. Likewise, when our spiritual self is not working as it should, then we too should consult the maker’s instructions. We can do this by either searching for the Bible on-line or referring to the hard copy we might have on our bookshelves. There is a third way: to go along to your local church and share with others your concerns and problems and together we can all have a consultation with our maker through prayer and worship. Our bodies need physical sustenance, but our minds need spiritual food, and if these two work in harmony we can live the life for which we were intended.
May I wish you God’s love and peace
