Later this month our Benefice will be running a holiday club based on St Peter’s discipleship – it is entitled “Seaside Rock”. It will run during the week 27th-31st August at Roxton Church from 10am to 1pm. If you have a child/children who would like to come then you will need to complete an application form which you can obtain from one of the schools in the benefice (if your child attends one of those schools, or you can contact me if not). There will be activities, singing and loads of things to take part in.
Peter is a central figure in the Gospels, as one of Jesus’ disciples – always seeming to put his foot in his mouth when trying to understand what Jesus was all about. I’m sure he must have tried Jesus’ patience on more than one occasion! We all lose our patience from time to time, and I’m sure that at some point or another, we will all cause other people to lose their patience with us. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is patience, and we all struggle to uphold the gifts of the Spirit because our humanity overtakes us, sometimes when we are under pressure from the things that happen to us along life’s journey.
The best thing is that we can ask for forgiveness when we fail and let others down, as well as when we lot God down in the way that we live our lives. Jesus was forever showing Peter the right way he should live his life, and gradually Peter began to get the picture. I hope that we too can acknowledge when we are in the wrong, and ask God for his forgiveness as well as forgiveness from those around us.
