How often do we hear the words that it is too hot on a Bank Holiday? I certainly can’t remember the last time I said it, but it was rather hot on Bank Holiday Monday this week, and it is set to continue all through the school holiday – most unusual. Also, we appear to be breaking records for the highest temperatures in May; again very unusual. We often complain about the weather, but rarely because it is too hot and sunny. It is perhaps not a good time of the year for it to be so hot and dry as the cereal crops are beginning to firm up ready for the harvest later in the year. It is what it is, but what can we do about it?
We hear about global warming and the way it is changing our planet; is there anything we can do to at least slow down the process? We might, for example, try to cut down on carbon emissions and be more aware of what we do and how we do it so that the damage to our planet is minimal – rather than show no concern for its resources and be careless in our actions.
For the brief time we are here, we have been entrusted with the management of God’s earth and all that it offers us in the way of resources to maintain life. I hope that we can do our best to maintain what we have been given, give thanks to God for its provision, and when the season of harvest arrives, we will be able to celebrate with joyous and thankful hearts for the continuing seasons. As we read in the book of Genesis: “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.’
May I wish you God’s love and peace
