I never cease to marvel at God’s creation, and while we focus our thoughts on the beauty of what we see around us in nature – the animals, birds and the floral beauty – we should also be aware our bodies are also amazing structures that are capable of keeping going, even under difficult and pressurised situations. We know all too well that occasionally they become unwell and parts wear out and fail. However the extent of knowledge regarding being able to find the causes of problems and put them right is growing all of the time. Research is proving to be invaluable and is often funded by charitable giving by the person in the street – I make it my policy to give to a charity that carries out medical research, perhaps you do too.
Although we are learning all of the time, and research is progressing at a fast rate, obviously there is a lot more we need to discover in order to combat the number of diseases and conditions we know very little about, and therefore struggle to fight with the right medicines and treatments. I’m not saying that God’s creation of humankind is flawed, but through our lifestyles we sometimes neglect our human bodies and their needs. Part of the lifestyle we should adopt is to keep in touch with the maker. This coming weekend we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the first disciples in the upper room – known as Pentecost, because it is celebrated fifty days after Easter. The Holy Spirit is given to us by God, so that we have a guide to help us deal with situations, as well as empowering us to carry out God’s mission of spreading the Good News about Jesus. We would do well to listen to God’s guidance in all things, so we can live our lives as he wanted us to.
May I wish you God’s love and peace
