Graham’s Weekly Message

Isn’t it amazing how much difference the rain made that we had last week? We had been through quite a dry spell with some warmer temperatures, and the rain refreshed the air and the ground; the trees are looking greener and the grass is growing – it’ll soon be the time for regular grass-mowing, if it isn’t already! All living organisms need to be fed and nourished – to enable them to live and grow, and perform the tasks for which they were created.

As human beings we are no different; we all need refreshment and nourishment in order to live as we were created. Next week will be Christian Aid Week, when we think of those who are less well off than we are – particularly in other countries, but also in the United Kingdom. We see so much poverty in the world and it almost seems as though we can do very little to help, but in fact, every small amount collected can together make a lot of difference to the lives of people who struggle with life, especially to find food to eat.

It is the same for us as Christians; we all need spiritual food and nourishment in order to maintain our faith. Feeding on the words of God is important to us as we follow his ways and instructions in order to live life for which we were created. Jesus in the gospels paints a picture of the vine, and for the vine to bring forth fruit it has to stay connected to the main stem and roots of the plant, otherwise it cannot draw food from the earth. I hope that as we try and live the life for which we were created, we stay connected to God through prayer and study. And, as we move into Christian Aid Week we will think of those who struggle to eat and be generous in our spirit of love.

I wish you God’s love and peace
