Once again, we are approaching the time for changing the clocks, adjusting them by one hour moving forward – spring forward. It brings with it lighter evenings and an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful warm days of spring and eventually summer. No doubt there will be those who forget about the change in time overnight, and it wouldn’t be the first time that someone has been late for an event! Some of our clocks change automatically these days, which is very helpful, but traditional clocks need the manual adjustment.
As I have mentioned previously, Lent is a season for self-denial and putting right the things that are wrong with our lives as we try and follow God commands more closely. It is those adjustments that can make all the difference to our lives as we try and live according to our maker’s instructions. As well as self-denial, Lent is about acts of kindness and generosity, and to that end I hope that we can all spare a little more for the causes we support. I know there are many in our communities who already struggle with living and now have the extra cost of living that we face because of what is happening in the Middle-East. So, perhaps this is the opportunity to show care and concern for those whom we live amongst.
As Jesus gave up everything – in dying on the cross for our sins – I hope that we can sacrifice a little for the people around us, as well as finding something for those who are struggling through the worn-torn countries of the world. As we enter Holy Week in the church, and consider the trials and pains of Jesus, I pray that we may consider others in our prayers and in our giving.
I wish you God’s love and peace.
