February is a bit of a strange month; we are still in winter, but at the same time we are very much looking forward to spring, the earth getting warmer and brighter days ahead. Perhaps you are looking forward to the summer and a welcome break of sunshine and getting away from the daily routines of life, and finding somewhere to relax for a couple of weeks. The days and weeks roll by very quickly but it is not a good idea to wish your life away. Of course we have to plan ahead – which I am constantly doing in the life of the church; I think about the coming Christian festivals and how we might celebrate them.
We will soon be entering the season of Lent, which will enable us to reflect on our lives and how we prepare ourselves for the celebration of Easter. It provides us with an opportunity to do some soul searching; reflect on how we might become better people and follow more closely the teaching of the Bible and the way that Jesus showed us how to live as we were created.
Some people make the decision to give up something that they consider a luxury as a form of penitence – such as wine or chocolate. I guess for those people who do this it enables them to focus on the things that really matter in life. This year we are running a five week course based on the film West Side Story – 2021 version. Throughout the five weeks we will watch clips of the film and discuss the realities of life and the implications of how that effects our daily life as we try and live as Jesus’ disciples. If you would like to know more about the course then I would be pleased to hear from you – please message me or contact me in the usual ways.
I wish you God’s peace.
