I have just seen my first school nativity play of the season, and the early years children were great, both in their acting and singing. There were a few tears from one or two children as they felt the pressure of performing in front of their parents. I too feel a little emotional as the story of the first nativity is played out; even though it may be a little different to the original story. It’s a wonderful story whether you believe in it or not, and as it is portrayed by the children it somehow comes alive.
I know some people find it difficult to believe in the story, but it was the same when it all happened; even the people who knew that the Messiah was coming didn’t believe that Jesus was the one whom the prophets had told about many years before. Even when Jesus was right in front of them performing miracles, healing the sick, and speaking with great authority; they still didn’t believe in him.
I hope that as you are reminded of the Christmas story either by seeing the children perform in a nativity play, a scene on a Christmas card or hearing the story read from the Bible, you will be able to believe in the real story of Jesus’ birth and come to know him as Lord and Saviour. We would love to welcome you into one of our churches over the Christmas period – details of all our services can be found in the Riversmeet Recorder magazine that was posted through your door, or alternatively you can contact me.
May I wish you God’s blessing for the coming seasons of Advent and Christmas. Revd Graham
