As I write today, I’m sitting in a garage waiting area; the car has received a recall notice. Somehow there is always a fear that they will find something else wrong whilst carrying out the necessary work. However, I am stuck here for the next couple of hours just waiting to get the car back. I know for some there is a similar worry when they visit the doctors: that they might discover another problem.
It set me thinking about our own spiritual lives, and how sometimes we need a recall, perhaps even a reset to the manufacturer’s default settings. The Bible tells us that we are made in the image of God, but very often we try and go our own way without thinking what damage we might be doing to our spiritual lives, and moving away from how we were originally designed. I guess it’s like ignoring the maker’s instructions whenever we purchase a new gadget – we plough straight in without reading them, thinking we know best; but it is so easy to upset our balance and therefore we need a reset from time to time.
Similarly, we need to spend some time in quiet reflection and listen to what God is saying to us and calling us to do. We have but a short time before the rush of the next few weeks leading up to Christmas, so why not take some time to find some peace and quiet for reflection and recharging of your batteries.
May I wish you God’s blessing
