Graham’s Weekly Message

This is message number 266 of the messages I started writing in the midst of the COVID pandemic. 266 is a significant number for me, as it is the number of the house in Cardington where I was born. It will be forever etched in my memory, and I can recall some happy days in that house from as far back as I can remember. This past weekend in Blunham church we have had an exhibition of Toys and Teddies from past decades. I know from chatting to people who came that they too have been reminiscing about times gone by.

Sometimes it is good to reflect on our past – although sometimes it brings back sad and distressing times – but our past makes us what we are today through the many experiences we have encountered along the way. At the same time, it also reminds us of the values and traditions that we were taught at an early age, have grown up with and should hold on to as we try and live our lives to the best.

It would seem that so many worthy values have been lost as each generation comes along, and I guess like many people, we wish for times gone by when things were different. But we must be grateful for the progress that has been made over the years that has brought us so many good things. The people of Jesus’ times were angry because they saw changes in attitudes and love that were going to disturb the status quo and, in some situations, they wished for a return to the olden days. But Jesus wanted to change the world and show how the commandments should really be interpreted – loving and caring for one another.

May I wish you God’s blessings
