At Messy Church this Saturday in Blunham Church, our theme is “God’s Wonderful World”. Today’s picture is a flower that I photographed in the Rectory garden. I’m trying to improve my technique for close-up photography; and I love to examine the minute details as captured by the camera – the structure of the flowers is amazing. Whilst we look at the overall picture of God’s beautiful creation around us, when we look a little closer and notice how the flowers are put together, it is truly remarkable and intricate. There is so much for us to enjoy and to give thanks to God for his wonderful gift.
As we rush about our daily business, so often we neglect to take on board the incredible working of the world around us. And we also neglect to take care of this planet that gives us so much with all of its resources. And when we harvest those resources, we fail to share them as we should with others around the world, therefore bringing about the lack of nourishment for so many of the world’s population.
I hope that we are always mindful of where our sustenance comes from, and that we seek to maintain the sources of food, clean water and minerals that provide us with everything we need in order to live. We take so much through our trading with other countries: you only have to look at the produce in our supermarkets. And we do not always reciprocate in trade, leaving those countries with a lack of resources; and that does not only mean food but the other resources of the earth too. “Fairtrade” is a word often heard, but it is not always the case. As we accept God’s blessing, help us, Lord God, to be fair in dealing with the rest of the world and our fellow humans.
May I wish you God’s blessings.
