Graham’s Weekly Message

A Bank Holiday and of course it rains – almost guaranteed! Coupled with the children being on school holiday this week, it seems inevitable that the weather would turn. Although unsettled weather is what we really need as the farmers keep telling me. The shortage of water is also evident, as you may have noticed by the river and pond levels of water. Water is a resource none of us can do without; we all need a fresh clean supply, and when I see pictures in the media of families going without or having to make do with disease-ridden water from ponds and rivers, it disturbs me that with all the wonderful inventions and technology we have at our fingertips, yet we can’t get that clean fresh supply to every inhabitant of the world. One of the charities I support is “Water Aid”, which does its best to help with supplying water to those who do not have that facility.

Water figures a lot in the Bible as you would expect, not least the first miracle of Jesus when at the wedding in Cana he turned water into wine; and a lot of the stories in the gospels are based around the Sea of Galilee – for instance Jesus calming the storm to save the disciples from certain drowning. The other story that we find is the Samaritan woman being asked by Jesus for a drink, and Jesus responds with “whoever drinks from the living water that I give will never go thirsty”. I hope that we take the opportunity to drink of the spiritual water that Jesus offers everyone, so that we may receive spiritual fulfilment, and trust in Jesus that our souls will never be thirsty again.

May I wish you God’s blessings.
