You may recall at the beginning of the year that I was writing my message on my laptop because the power was off – courtesy of the electricity company. At the time of writing, I was in a similar position waiting for the electricity company to turn up in Tempsford Church. Although we had been given a time slot, the engineer would arrive presumably when he had completed the previous job before coming to change the electricity meter here. There is nothing worse than waiting when you’re not sure when something will happen – you know it is going to happen, but when precisely?
You may recall from the Gospels that Jesus was prophesying his death to those who would listen, yet nobody knew when this was going to happen. Whether the disciples were in denial, or they didn’t believe what Jesus was telling them we don’t really know. This week we recall and commemorate the events of what we call Holy Week. Starting of course with Palm Sunday – with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey to the acclamation of the crowd – and then moving on to his betrayal by Judas Iscariot, his mock trial before Herod and Pilate, and ultimately his death on the cross. These are the dark days of his life on earth before the triumph of Easter Day: overcoming death to bring us the offer of a new life following his teaching and ways of living.
I hope that during this Eastertide you will discover for yourselves the love, forgiveness and triumph of living the new life with a faith in Jesus Christ. Enjoy your Easter eggs with a new found belief in the resurrection of Jesus!
May I wish you God’s blessing and a Happy Easter.
