Graham’s Weekly Message

The photograph below is not my usual offering as I am playing with my new camera with black and white photography. The contrast between light and shade areas gives the picture a different sort of quality. It takes me back to my first camera, which only took black and white photographs; back in the 1960s.

In real life, not many things are black and white, in fact almost the opposite is true as there are many grey areas, and sometimes the line between the two is not very clear at all. Life would be much easier if only things were black and white. Whichever way we turn, there always seem to be some options which cloud the decisions we have to make. We live in a society where there are so many different ways of doing things – and so decisions are more difficult to make.

Jesus in the gospels says, “Whoever is not with me is against me” – that is a black and white decision; there is no sitting on the fence. There are of course some who not sure; they want to believe but want more information and to spend more time discovering for themselves what Jesus is all about. The same happened in Jesus’ time when people knew there was a promised Messiah, but were not sure if it was Jesus who was the one.

I hope that through this season of Lent, as we are encouraged to study, reflect and pray, that if you are one of those who are unsure you will discover for yourself the wonderful assured love that Jesus has for everyone.

With God’s love and blessings this Lenten time.
