What a lovely weekend we have just had – some nice warm sunshine and bright days which I hope is a sign of the spring and summer that is to come. The picture was taken in the Rectory garden; and I have even managed to get flowers with the colour of this season of Lent. There are lots of signs and symbols around us in nature, signifying the coming and going of the seasons. We listen for the increase in birdsong, the birds carrying nesting materials in their beaks and we can see that soon the time will come when the birds will be ready to lay their eggs. We look for the buds on the trees and bushes that will be a sign that they getting ready to show forth their leaves and flowers in the warmth of the sunshine.
When Jesus lived on the earth all those years ago, he performed many signs and wonders that indicated that he was the promised Messiah; all of these were to show who he was – that he loved all people and that God’s love is available to everyone who believes in him. The people of the time found it difficult to believe in him, and no matter what he said or did, it didn’t seem to make much difference; sometimes because they knew he was the son of a carpenter, so how could he possibly be the Messiah? Their eyes were blinded by other things that meant seeing Jesus as the Saviour of the World was not possible.
I hope that in this season of Lent, we are able to see Jesus as the one sent from his Father God to be the Saviour of the World and that you can believe and trust in him for the coming days.
