Do you find these cold dull cloudy days depressing? I’m sure that they are not good for our mental health. We all crave some sunshine that will lighten our mood and warmer temperatures to lift our spirits. Some will be able to look forward to summer holidays, when a break from the routine days of living will be replaced by a few days of pampering, warm sunshine, and meals out. But there are many who cannot afford this luxury and their lives will remain the same day after day. There are a number of charities that try to remedy this, especially for those who are incapable of organising through disabilities and other infirmities.
Sometimes this can be helped by putting on events in our communities that enable all residents of our villages to attend. As I have mentioned before in my weekly messages, as Christians we are called to assist those who are vulnerable, and in the words of scripture, the widow and the orphan – this is a term that can be interpreted as all those in need. Jesus in his earthly ministry always encountered those who were in need or vulnerable, and changed their lives: either by healing, feeding them, or looking after their needs.
This is an example to all of us, whether we have a faith or not: to search those in most need and provide for them, either by our generosity of time or money. I hope that you can be generous in giving of yourselves to serve the community in which you live. I’m sure there are many ways in which we can achieve this end and maybe bring a little sunshine into someone’s life.
With God’s love and blessings.
