Graham’s Weekly Message

I’m writing this message on my laptop as the mains power is off, not because of a power cut but because they are working on the electricity meter. It’s rather strange having no mains electricity, and of it course it means that everything that runs on electricity is off. They assure me it won’t be for long but nonetheless all those things we rely upon are useless without the current feeding them. Thankfully I have my laptop which , although it requires electricity, is battery powered so I can continue working. There have of course been many people cut off because of the weather conditions over the last few days, over which we have no control. It must be very difficult for them not knowing when their mains power will be restored so that they can get back to some normality.

As Christmas begins to fade into the distance, and the festivities become a distant memory, we can still recall the power with which God came to earth through the birth of his Son. We don’t always make that connection, simply because Jesus was born in a stable – the dirtiest of all places surrounded by animals and straw, and kings are always born in palaces! God wanted to make his affinity with humankind, and the beginning of Jesus’ earthly life in the lowliest of all places gave us a sign that God’s love and saving grace is for all people regardless of background, tradition or belief.

I hope that in this coming year of 2025 we all may be able to make that connection with God the Creator of all things, as we worship and trust in him for all that lies ahead of us in this New Year.

May I wish you all a happy, peaceful and blessed 2025
