This morning, while it was snowing, I was told a story of an early cacophony of sound from a neighbour. It turned out that the children were so excited about seeing the snow falling, that they were making lots of whoops and screams at the thought of playing in the November snow. It is quite unusual to see snow so early in the winter; it does happen, but not so frequently in these warmer days. I can remember playing in the snow on many occasions as a child, and indeed with the children and enjoying the fun it brings.

The snow is not good news for everyone, however – it does cause disruption for some, and for others brings pain and suffering as they sleep in shop doorways or any shelter that they can find around our towns and urban sprawls. It is easy to get wrapped up in the enjoyment of children when the white stuff falls from the skies, and not so easy to remember those who are caught in its cold clutches.I hope that as we enter the season of cold nights and windy days of winter that we will all spare a thought for the homeless. And for whatever reason they find themselves on the streets, we will not only think of them, but be generous in our giving to those who provide some relief with hot meals and drinks to people living on the streets. We are all asked to show love and generosity to those in need, and I think that it becomes more evident as we experience the colder weather. There are so many who are in need of warmth from our love and what we can offer. Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you” and this is one example of how we might achieve that goal!
With love, prayers and God’s blessing.
