The first Christmas advertisements are now appearing on television, the shops are beginning to construct their Christmas displays, and we in the church are planning our Christmas services, activities and events for the coming season. Many of these activities are traditional in name and contain many things with which we are warm and comfortable as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Amongst all of these there are one or two things which will be slightly different to the usual. You will need to read your free copy of Riversmeet Recorder to discover more details and it won’t be long before the December/January issue will be delivered through your door.

There is something heartwarming and comfortable about the things that we know and look forward to each year. Yet, we need to progress, try new and different things that will enhance our life experiences. When Jesus was born into the world, the people of the time were not ready for the Messiah who had been foretold by the prophets. They assumed it would be a great and mighty warrior; but it was Jesus the son of a carpenter who was to be the Saviour of the world. The people continued in their old ways until Jesus showed them a different way to live their lives – a different way to interpret the traditional scriptures that they knew and loved; but they failed to discover the real way to live according to God’s commands. Jesus came to change their way of thinking and to show them the correct way to show love, mercy and forgiveness.
I pray that as we try new ways of worship and giving thanks to God, we will discover a new, refreshing way of living our lives according to God’s example in Jesus Christ.
With Love, prayers and God’s blessing.
