Graham’s Weekly Message

Some of you will know that I have recently had a holiday, and I spent a few days on the Island of Jesey in the Channel Islands. We used mainly the bus to get around when we weren’t walking, and it was noticeable that when people alighted the bus they said, ‘Thank you,’ to the driver. This was almost without exception, whether young, old or anywhere in between. A polite word of thanks was always forthcoming, whether the bus was almost empty or jam packed full; it was impressive to see and hear!

It didn’t appear to be made under sufferance, but just came naturally from the passengers. It is a good lesson to learn for all ages: a little politeness goes a long way and it is nothing that strenuous or energy-sapping – just two little words. Over the next two weeks we will be celebrating our Harvest Festivals in our churches and schools, when we give thanks to God for all the good things that he has given us to sustain our bodies. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture – although not so long ago our churches and chapels were decorated to the hilt – but just a simple ‘Thank you’ in word and song.

There are many things in life for which we need to say thank you, even when things are not going as they should be or as we want them to. Next time someone does something for you, don’t forget to say thank you, and equally, come and celebrate with us the beauty and resources that God’s creation gives to us. Thank you for reading my message!

With Love, prayers and God’s blessing.
